Ye received his B.Sc. degree from Peking University in 2006, and Ph.D. from The University of Chicago in 2012. His thesis work, with Professor Viresh Rawal, focused on squaramide-catalyzed phospha-Michael addition and palladium-catalyzed indole functionalization reactions. He then moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue postdoctoral studies with Professor Stephen Buchwald where he worked in the area of ligand-controlled asymmetric arylation of aliphatic a-amino anion equivalents.
In 2014, inspired to transform patients’ lives through science, Ye joined the Bristol-Myers Squibb, working on process development, route scouting, and the design and implementation of safe, efficient and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates. He was a member of the team that developed P(V) reagents for oligonucleotide synthesis, which was awarded Horizon Prize—Robert Robinson Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
In 2018, passionate about developing efficient and practical methods for application in the pharmaceutical industries (and others), Ye started as an assistant professor in the National University of Singapore.
Originally from China, Ye studied chemistry in Beijing, China and Chicago, Illinois, worked in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and is now teaching in Singapore.
